Business Integrity system was implemented in the Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI). It is the result of continuous and thorough mutual work with experts from TI-Bulgaria.

Implementing the Business Integrity policies starts with getting to know the work of the HCCI and analyzing the existing mechanisms for good governance, social and environmental responsibility. As a result, TI`s experts implemented the system and its tools for free.

During the process it became clear that achieving international governance standards, as the ones that are included in the Business Integrity system will help the members of the chamber with their international and global partnerships. Which is very important especially for a region with cross-border cooperation like Haskovo.

Application of mechanisms which aim to help business in reducing operational, legal, financial and reputational risk is a step forward to achieving a complete ESG solution that the local business is willing to take. The standards will be used as a tool for improving transparency and accountability of the companies in the region.

We are looking forward to finding the solution how all these standards implemented in the Chamber could be applied to all of its members. But eve the timid synchronization of the Bulgarian legislation with Business Integrity requirements will contribute to this. As well as the good governance rules that can be found in the corporate principles of the big companies in Bulgaria. Precisely those companies requirements – banks, insurers, industry – will put the Bulgarian business in front of a "fait accompli" and then the advantage for both partnership and access to financial instruments will be given to the companies that have established mechanisms.

The Certificate for complete implementation was presented by Mr. Kalin Slavov, the executive director of TI-Bulgaria to Mr. Yancho Yanev, the chairman of HCCI.

“Business Integrity is an approach to structuring governance which could be applied to the public as well as to the private sectors. If we imagine a corrupted official for sure there is someone seducing him on the other side. And usually the seducer is business. What Business Integrity is about is that practices that deform governance should not be used when thinking in terms of gifts, hospitality and sponsorship. The big companies when talking about Business integrity have declared that they do not provide donations to political partis, do not sponsor political campaigns, even those that go along with proclaimed political goals of a local party” commented Mr. Kalin Slavov in the context of the 7th elections for the last 3 years in Bulgaria.
