the European Commission\u2019s proposed anti-corruption directive, which took place on July 2, 2025, kindly hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the aim of the directive is to create a fairer and more accountable environment, businesses in Bulgaria are expressing growing concern that the new requirements could lead to severe economic consequences, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting was hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria \u2013 a member of the Business Integrity Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>An overwhelming administrative and financial burden<\/strong> on small and medium-sized companies that have neither the capacity nor the resources to build complex compliance systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Creating an artificial inequality<\/strong>in which large corporations will adapt easily and emerge almost unaffected, while small ones will be squeezed by the new rules;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increasing insurance costs<\/strong> and risk premiums on liabilities, which will force investors and managements to step back and directly will hit competitiveness;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Potential job losses<\/strong>limited entrepreneurship and a contraction of economic activity \u2013 at a time when stability is critical.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conclusion is clear \u2013 although the directive has the right goals in principle, its implementation risks \u201c <strong>\u201e\u0438\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0438\u0442\u0443\u0446\u0438\u043e\u043d\u0430\u043b\u0438\u0437\u0438\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0435 \u043d\u0430 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The participants in the meeting insisted on urgently finding a balance between the need for integrity and the real opportunities of business. \nConcrete steps were outlined \u2013 drafting an official position, active dialogue with the government and exchange of information to prepare for the new reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Business Integrity Club remains at the forefront \u2013 not only in upholding integrity, but also in protecting the sustainable development and viability of the Bulgarian economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
